  1. Harald Hardrada wins the crown: Collaborative timeline

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Hardrada's expeditions east into the Barents Sea was most likely to search for a route to the riches of the Orient. He did spend a deal of time as a Varangian, he knew how important and profitable that trade was. With the eastern route dismissed...
  2. Homo Erectus in Australia

Honestly I did some more digging and it seems strange that no homo erectus dna has been sequenced. I guess we won't know for sure till that happens.
  3. Homo Erectus in Australia

Did you not finish reading the article? The paragraph after the second quote answers the question. No.
  4. Getting desperate for a plausible CSA victory scenario

It would probably take a closer defeat in 1856 for the Republicans, as well as them taking the House in 1858. Dont think the Senate is possible.
  5. Getting desperate for a plausible CSA victory scenario

The confederacy's best bet is to seceede earlier in Buchanans term, say shortly after the mid terms. Plenty of more time to make seccession fait accompli, when a Republican takes office in 1861.
  6. AHC: Anglo-Irish Majority In Ireland

Qerent the majority of the people Cromwell killed the Anglo Catholic ruling class, centered in the cities he burned? If thats the case, maybe Cromwell not going to Ireland is the ticket.
  7. Avis Spain timeline planning thread

Thing is a child of Afonso and Isabella will be older, and closer to age of majority. There is going to be ALOT of resistance to an Aviz taking the throne of Castille, let alone Aragon. Why submit to the king of portugal, ruling in the name of his wife and young child, when they could opt for...
  8. Alternate Names for Washington

Sorry i went off like that, just hate seeing Washington or the other founders whitewashed. It takes away the fact that they were men too. My favorite quote about G Washington goes "he couldn't tell a lie....without a smile on his face" :D As an Oregonian I'd like to suggest Oregon is just...
  9. Alternate Names for Washington

You really dont know much about Washington if you think he was humble. Noble, sometimes, but never humble.
  10. Ho Chi Minh and the OSS

If Wallace succeeded FDR I could see him recognizing their independence.
  11. AHC: Yiddish Pirates

Well besides Portugeuse Jews. If you really want Jewish pirates it can be done, just not likely they'll speak Yiddish.
  12. Goddard works for the Navy

Lets say Robert Goddard starts working for the Navy in 1917, instead of the Army. How would his research be affected by the different sponsorship. Would the Navy be more sympathetic to his goals and ideas? Will more progress be made with the Navy? Heres some ideas I want to spitball. Earlier...

The spanish smade first contact with people from the Incan empire when their caravel happened upon a fiber ship with cotton sails.
  14. Vinland - Viable immigration opportunities

Harald Hardrada showed interest in finding a northern route to the east. Spending many years in Byzantine gave him first hand experience on how much wealth flowed from the east. He made one expedition north of Russia but had to turn back because of sea ice. Now let's say you handwave that he...
  15. AHC: "Steuben, we are here!"

That was what I was thinking, though hoping for a scenario that doesnt leave much of the world irradiated.
  16. AHC: "Steuben, we are here!"

How do you engineer a situation were the US joins a war on the side of the Germans, after 1900?
  17. How does US history change with a smaller State of Texas?

I read Taylor wanted New Mexico adimitted or at least organized immediately. So I could see Texas losing all the lands it gained from New Mexico, but nothing else. To loose the Rio Grande, it would require either the Mexicans keeping it, or the Republic of the Rio Grande succeeding.
  18. AHC/WI: American Indian wank post-1815

Wow thats something I never knew. That it was that controversial. Which only makes it bittersweet that with someone like JQ Adams in charge it could have gone better for them. I say him because I think he would respect the Supreme Court more.
  19. AHC: Industrialise the American South

How early could the cotton weevil get to the US?
  20. (Pre/Post 1900)AHC: Another 4-way Presidential Election after 1860

Have Wilson dropout at the convention and Champ Clark get the nomination. WJ Bryan leads a walk out like what happened at the Republican convention. Thats all I got.
