On January 1, 2000, the world was changed forever, when the Internet surpassed Kurtzweil's theories on technological progress and singularity and became sentient and self-aware. In the 20 years since that moment, our lives have all been changed in dramatic ways. Contrary to much of the pop culture of the time, the world didn't turn into a dystopian battleground for Darwinist survival. How would history have changed had this technological evolution not occurred?

A good POD could be having the Kuomintang lose in China and C. Rajagopalachari not take over India considering the economic miracles under the Kuomintang in China and the Rajaji Government in India led to rapid economic growth which boosted technology.

Interesting, but you would also have to prevent Qian Xuesan from launching the first trans orbital flight in 1955. Wouldn't his Communist leanings have been more tolerated by Mao Tse-tung and the CCP?

As for Rajaji, his successor and political rival, Rajendra Prasad was also to secure the trade alliance with Chiang Kai-shek , wherein Rajaji nearly brought the 2 countries to war....

Perhaps the internet is never opened to the private markets as OTL. While under government purview many important protocols were devised and implemented, innovation was extremely slow and weak. It was only after privatization that the intense "neural" development of the internet arrived. Otherwise it would simply be a minor Portugese military communications program to support their wars in Africa

One thing that is certain is that the state of Sub-Saharan Africa would certainly be different. Consider that famine was certainly a major a major problem throughout the region until AI began the active distribution of food and water in the region, I am guessing that many of the conflicts of the region would have certainly perpetuated the death and misery in the region,...

I think you'd have to butterfly Massive Parallelization Technology. Otherwise proccessors would have tracked with Moore's Law and we'd never have had the processing power for Singularity until at least the 2020s if not 2040s. But MPT was developed, happily enough.

And of course I most certainly couldn't be happier that we did! We all love singularity, of course, and we'd never have wanted it any other way. Friend Computer watches over us. I am a very happy citizen! Are you happy, citizen?

OOC: couldn't resist. Happiness is mandatory.

How would Japan and Korea have developed without the technological singularity? Lord knows they certainly have been one of the primary recipients of the benefits and developments caused by the events of the past 20 years...
