Black cross on a white sky: the expension of the teutonic knight

In october 1382, Vyautas tried to escape from the Kreva castle(1), unfortunately, during the escape; he was spotted by the castle gards. During the pursuit, he trip in a stair and broke his neck in his fall. His brother Jogaila heard of his cousin death three days after and put him in haw.
The assassination of his uncle was planned to prevent any uprising from the nobility but he hoped that he could give Vyautas a duchy and make him a useful ally. But on the other hand it was simplifying lots of things, no alliance could be made against him, he was sole ruler of Lithuania. It was strengthening his position, especially toward the Teutonic Knight who helps him in his rebellion against Kestutis, his uncle. He never trusted them; after all, they used him and his power struggle to try gaining Samogitia and his conversion. But with the death of Vyautas everything changed, they no longer had a levy against him, accepting to sign a treaty to recognize his promise won’t endanger his position. He sent a letter to the Hochmeister Konrad Von Rotenstein, who was recently elected to office, to decide a meeting place.
In 31 of October 1382 the treaty of Dubysa was finally signed and ratified (2) by Jogaila and Konrad Von Wallenrode, Marshal of the Teutonic Knight. The six days of negotiation had been rude for both parts, the Knight wanted an act to prevent Jogaila to start a war without their consent but he never agreed and by force of menace of leaving and persuasion he make them decide to abandon that part. It was fulfilling for both sides, maybe Jogaila was losing Samigitia but the four years alliance they proposed was a way to prevent someone to take over him. Has the Christianisation, it never was a problem, the Knight insured him that will prevent further war with western kingdom.
Konrad Von Wellenrode came back to Malbork castle, with the signed and ratified treaty, the Hochmeister was pleased, he order to send knights and missionaries in the newly gained province of Samogitia and his main army to march toward Livonia. With the incoming Christianisation of Lithuania, conformal with the treaty of Dubysa, the only remaining target granted by the imperial privilege was Russia. And he knew that the Livonian order will be pleased to get their revenge for the defeat of Lake Peipus and Rakvere.
