AHC Roy Cohn, Mayor of New York

I was going to make this thread a DBWI but, I would like to see some serious discussion about it . With the recent death of three-term Mayor of New York, Ed Koch and re-reading some of the classic '50's Dystopia Timelines on the board, I was wondering was there any way to elect Roy Cohn as Mayor of New York either in the late '70's or '80's?

The man had a lengthy and lucrative legal career after the McCarthy hearings(where he was only 29 when all of it was over with), is there any way for him to parlay that into a successful local career? Or would his involvement with the Rosenberg's tainted any hope that a Jewish Republican candidate of his background could garner enough support to become Mayor? What would be the best time for him to run? Later in his life, he wasn't as discrete about his sexuality as he had been, so how could he have handled those inevitable questions...I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this:D
