Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to give the US a "Special Relationship" with a country other than the UK in the twentieth century. The weirder and more genuine the friendship the better, so a US / China special relationship in which the US considers itself China's "Little Brother" an opinion shared at all levels of American and Chinese society, and which drives foreign policy is better than one between the US and France in which France is a resentful near puppet of American power.
