    Carrier based kriegsmarine

but they don t occupy them for 2 years like new construction does on building slips.More of a limiting factor would be armor plate and skilled labour.

ships in refit do not occupy building slips.

    Carrier based kriegsmarine

    Carrier based kriegsmarine

Maybe maybe not. From what I understand the limiting factor wasn t money so much as slips large enough to take capital ships.

    Carrier based kriegsmarine

It's basically the left hand not being co-ordinated with the right hand in all cases even with different results.

    Carrier based kriegsmarine

Not consulting the rest of the designers on a project is not unique to the Kriegsmarine.Think Hunt class destroyers and the Iowa's turret rings.

Design a carrier for the RN of 1934

Design a carrier for the RN of 1934

Wasn t the torpedo at Ark Royal set at a deeper depth and struck her while she was turning thereby not hitting the TDS,and taking out her internal communications.......basically three strikes and you're out bad luck.

Design a carrier for the RN of 1934

Indomitable survived a torpedo hit and i assume her TDS was very similar to Ark Royals, just depends where the ship gets hit.

Design a carrier for the RN of 1934

From what i understand Ark Royal was hit below the TD system as she was turning. The rest were all WW1 designs or small carriers. Illustrious class elevators weren t armored and most of the hits missed the hanger armor. Good damage control and being anal about avgas probably had a significant...

Design a carrier for the RN of 1934

The light fleets were estimated in 1942 to cost 1.8 million but averaged 2.5 million when built.

Design a carrier for the RN of 1934

according to D K Brown the bean counters vetoed a light fleet carrier as an 11,000 ton 28 knot carrier with 12 aircraft would cost 2,500,000 pounds vs an Illustrious at 4,000,000 pounds.that would make the cost per plane carried almost double.Ark Royal cost 3.2 million making the cost per...

    AHC/WI: Faster Nelson class?

wouldn t replace battleships just use them to slow the opposition down so the big boys could finish them off. That was the plan in OTL there was never enough planes to do a proper job.And yes you could do it shortly after 1922 by replacing the inefficient carriers with ones with a larger air group.

    AHC/WI: Faster Nelson class?

all the experimental carriers could be replaced at anytime.Eagle would be the prime one to go.Too slow and way too big for the number of aircraft carried with furious being next.Hermes and argus can be replaced by a larger carrier and once the 2nd London naval treaty rolls around there were no...
